about

Yoga Nidra is a form of guided meditation often described as psychic, or enlightened, sleep. The idea is that the body sleeps while the mind remains aware and focused on the present moment offering the practitioner exceptional levels of relaxation and rejuvenation.

While it is understandable that practitioners will sometimes fall asleep during the practice, the goal is to remain aware. If you are practicing at the end of your day or just decide that you're going to take a nap, it is advised that you are intentional about your decision to sleep and turn the meditation off first. Please try not to develop the habit of falling asleep while listening to the meditation.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and being interested in healing yourself.

"When people begin to meditate, they often say that their thoughts are running riot, and have become wilder than ever before. But I reassure them and say that this is a good sign. Far from meaning that your thoughts have become wilder, it shows that YOU have become quieter, and you are finally aware of just how noisy your thoughts have always been. Don't be disheartened or give up. Whatever arises, just keep being present, keep returning to the breath, even in the midst of all the confusion.

Sometimes people think that when they meditate there should be no thoughts and emotions at all; and when thoughts and emotions do arise, they become annoyed and exasperated with themselves and think they have failed. Nothing could be farther from the truth...

Just as the ocean has waves, or the sun has rays, so the mind's own radiance is its thoughts and emotions... Whatever rises, do not see it as a particular problem. If you do not impulsively react, if you are only patient, it will once again settle into its essential nature.

When you have this understanding, then rising thoughts only enhance your practice... Before them, as Dudjom Rinpoche used to say: 'Be like an old wise man, watching a child play.'" -Sogyal Rinpoche in "The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying"

As I was flipping through my copy of "The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying" for some excerpts to share I was surprised to find an ant in my book. I looked up the spiritual symbolism of ants and was drawn to the idea that despite its minute size, the ant possesses an immense strength of accomplishment, reminding us that nothing comes easy in life without putting any effort.

To maximize the benefits of this meditation, practice 40 days in a row. If you miss a day, don't beat yourself up, just start again and never give up. The benefits of meditation are cumulative. More practice = more authenticity
